Vinesh Phogat has had a difficult ten days, full of ups and downs that no athlete wants to face. Despite not winning an Olympic medal, she was warmly welcomed home. When Vinesh landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi from Paris on Saturday morning, the reception was incredible.
With tight security around her, Vinesh was met by a large crowd of cheering fans. The 29-year-old wrestler, moved to tears, was comforted by friends and fellow wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik.
Wearing many garlands, Vinesh thanked her supporters from the back of an open Jeep. “I thank the entire country,” she said. A grand parade will take her to her hometown of Balali in Haryana.
