Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) national president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has taken the oath of office as Chief Minister of residual Andhra Pradesh for the second time, marking a significant milestone in his political career spanning over four decades.
In a ceremony held at Kesarapalle near Gannavaram, close to Vijayawada, Governor S. Abdul Nazeer administered the oath to Mr. Naidu on June 12. This marks his fourth term as Chief Minister, having previously served twice in the combined Andhra Pradesh and now his second term in residual Andhra Pradesh.
The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of notable dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, former Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana, as well as film stars Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi, among others.
Pawan Kalyan, Chief of the Jana Sena Party (JSP), along with 24 other MLAs from TDP, BJP, and JSP, also took the oath as Cabinet ministers of Andhra Pradesh, bringing the total strength of the cabinet to 25.
In the 2024 Assembly elections, the TDP, JSP, and BJP, allies of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), contested against the YSRCP. With the exception of 11 Assembly seats secured by the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), the NDA clinched the majority of seats, securing victory in 164 out of the total 175 Assembly constituencies in the State.
While the TDP emerged victorious in 135 Assembly constituencies, the JSP and BJP secured victories in 21 and 8 Assembly constituencies respectively. Mr. Naidu allocated ministerial berths to the JSP and BJP in proportion to their representation in the State Assembly. Following a formula, he ensured fair representation for NDA partners, assigning one ministerial berth for every 7 MLAs won by an alliance partner. Consequently, the JSP, with 21 seats, received three ministerial berths, while the BJP, with 8 seats, secured one ministerial berth. The remaining positions were retained by the TDP.
Took oath as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh at the swearing-in ceremony in Amaravati today. I devote myself to serving the people of my state.
